This is my second cover shot for Maclean’s Magazine. It was shot in the House of Commons foyer the day before the budget while Michael Ignatieff was waiting for a TV interview with CPAC.
I have been working on another project for Maclean’s Magazine on Michael Ignatieff, the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. I have had many opportunities to photograph him in meetings with MP’s and advisors, during interviews, press conferences, through cracks in doors, some quick portraits… His communications director Jill Fairbrother has been extremely accommodating with our requests and Mr. Ignatieff has been very generous with his time and patience. There was talk of running the feature in black and white, which I was excited about, but they ended up running color in the end. Here are a few images from my time with him over the past weeks.

At the beginning of the interview, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff asked Maclean’s Magazine editor-in-chief Ken Whyte to autograph his copy of Whyte’s new book.

In the living room at Stornoway during a day of interviews and briefings.
Most of the stuff I shot was available light, either with a 24-70 on my Mk3 or a 50 on my 5D. In the House of Commons Foyer/Rotunda I let the TV cameras light my subjects and I shoot from the dark side of the subject (narrow light) for a bit of drama and character. For one interview at Stornoway (the residence of the official opposition) I set up a soft box.

Not surprised to see him being so open… he did write the intro for Magnum Degrees!
